Traditional Chinese Medicine is a time tested science to improve fertility rates.
According to a landmark study published in the medical journal Fertility and Sterility, volume 77, April 2002, page 721-724, found that acupuncture dramatically improves the chances of becoming pregnant when used in conjunction with other assisted reproductive techniques.
Lots of medical researchers in western medicine had done extensive studies on Traditional Chinese medicine's effectiveness on treating infertility. Numerous positive reports has been published and the followings are just a few of those.
Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York researched and concluded in their report : 5 ways acupuncture can boost fertility. Prevention.com 2002; that acupuncture helps to:
- increase blood flow to the uterus, which improves the chances of an ovum implanting on the uterine wall
- reduce anxiety, stress and the hormones that are secreted during stressful situations that can significantly decrease fertility
- normalize hormone and endocrine systems that regulate ovulation, especially in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome
- positively affect the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, which plays a key role in fertility
- regulate menstrual cycle
In a study published in Human Reproduction Journal, Volume 11, no. 6, 1996, an ultrasound was used to evaluate blood flow to the uterus during acupuncture treatments. The study found that blood flow increases during treatment. Relaxing the uterus and increasing blood flow allows for the successful implant of an embryo within the uterine lining.
Another study published in the British Medical Journal in February 2008, by E. Manheimer concluded that acupuncture can be offered as a significant, clinically relevant adjunct to in vitro fertilization.
According to the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine, infertility is caused by an imbalance of Qi (vital energy) and blood affecting one or more of the Organ System (defined by Traditional Chinese Medicine's theories and philosophies): Kidney Organ System, Spleen Organ System and Liver Organ System. And very often, the root cause is an entwining of issues of all the organ systems and further complicated by in individual body constitution. Statistics has shown that acupuncture alone can increase the successful rate of IVF from less than 30% to over 80%.
